Welcome to the Southern Arizona Chapter

Studebaker Drivers Club

On Arizona roads since the 1870s. Still turning heads in 2026.

Why Studebaker?

The cure for the common car!

Studebaker wagons were hauling freight across Southern Arizona before the railroad got here. By the 1870s, about half the wagons on the western frontier were Studebakers. There was a shop in Tucson selling them in 1891. Our Arizona ancestors depended on them for quality, reliable transportation — and Studebaker delivered for over a century.

When Arizona became a state in 1912, Studebaker was already building cars. They weren't following Detroit — they were making Detroit keep up. The 1953 Starliner. The Hawk. The Avanti. These were cars designed to be ahead of their time, built by an independent company that refused to build something boring.

Production stopped in 1966, but the cars are still on the road — and some of our members still drive theirs anywhere they want to go. In a world of disposable everything, a Studebaker was built to last and proved it.

There are plenty of great classic cars out there. But if you're the kind of person who likes something a little less expected, you're in the right place.

You don't have to own one to join. You just have to appreciate what they represent.

Dare to be different. Just like Studebaker did.

A recent club trip to Phoenix from Tucson, keeping up with traffic.  We drive our Studebakers!
